Meet the Candidates
State Representative Rick Saccone and State Senator Guy Reschenthaler will be visiting the Club in
September and October. They are both up for election in the November General Election and will be here
to discuss gun-related issues and anything else you might want to talk about. In the past both candidates
have been backed by the FOAC on their voting guides. Currently FOAC is revising their voting guide.

Recreational Pistol League
The Recreational Pistol League will be starting their season on Monday, September 12 at 7:30 p.m. on the indoor range. The League
is loosely organized into teams which compete against each other over the season for bragging rights. Their season starts in Septem
-
ber and ends some time in May. Shooting for 20 weeks, they take a break at the Christmas - New Year holidays and enjoy a “banquet”
at the end of the season. When their season ends they switch over to shooting metal silhouettes on the indoor range for a few weeks
before moving to the outdoor range for the Club’s Summer Bowling Pin Shoot.
The course of fire includes 5 segments - all on regulation NRA targets. The first segment is two lines of slow fire (5 shots in 2
minutes); the second segment is two lines of timed-fire (5 shots in 20 seconds); the next phase is two lines of rapid fire (5 shots in 10
seconds). Segment 4 is two lines of timed-fire (5 shots, change magazine, 5 more shots in 45 seconds; segment 5 is 5 shots, change
magazines, 5 more shots - one-handed - in 60 seconds.
Because of the time constraints, a semi-automatic pistol is recommended. You will need your favorite firearm, 50 rounds of am
-
munition (remember on the indoor range ammunition must have a muzzle velocity of under 1200 feet per second), and eye and ear
protection. Those with revolvers and speed loaders should have enough time to complete the course of fire. 22 caliber pistols are
recommended because of the cost on ammunition now.
The cost for the 20-week season is $30 for members and $40 for non-members. Shooters that can’t commit to the entire 20-week
season can pay on a per-night basis - at $3 per night for members and $4 per night for non-members.For questions or to sign up for the

Hunter Safety Course
The Club is working to re-establish our hunter safety program with the PA Game Commission. So far the Commission has re-certi

fied our instructors which is a good start to re-establishing our hunter Safety Courses. When we get final approval to hold our Hunter
Safety classes again we will have to set dates, develop a pool of club members willing to assist with these classes, and hopefully find
a few members who would like to become hunter safety instructors. Anyone who thinks they may be able to assist with these classes
or become an instructor is asked to contact Steve Boehm ASAP at

Becoming a Hunter Education Instructor is really very easy to do. To look into the process just go to the PA Game Commission web
site and click on either “Hunt and Trap” or “Education” at the top of their page; this will give you a drop down menu. Select “Hunt

er-Trapper Education” from that menu and the scroll down to “Becoming an Instructor.” To learn what is involved. Contact Steve

Safety Reminder
When using ANY of the ranges nothing is permitted on ANY range beyond
the firing line except for the targets, particularly on the Indoor Range.

If the Club determines a member is not following the Club’s range rules by shooting
ammunition that is not within the limits of the range, shooting in an unsafe manner

otherwise not following the range rules, that member will be subject to losing his
membership and will be denied access to the club’s facility.
NRA Classes
For information, costs, timing, and qualifications for the NRA
Classes being held by the Club, please contact Denny Nill at 412-

There are no basic pistol courses scheduled for the rest of the
year.
• Personal Protection IN the Home
Personal Protection
IN
the Home (PPIH) courses will be held
on Saturday, September 10 and Saturday, October 22.
• Personal Protection OUTSIDE the Home
A Personal Protection
OUTSIDE
the Home (PPOH) course
will be held on Saturday, November 5 and Saturday, November
12. This is a two-day class and both sessions must be attended to
complete the course.
• Tactical Shoots
There is one tactical shoot scheduled for the remainder of the
year - Tuesday, November 22 (from 7:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.). To
be eligible to participate in this tactical shoot, you must have
successfully completed the PPIH and/or PPOH Course conduct
-
ed at the Club or an NRA PPIH / PPOH Course at another club.
You will be required to provide the original Course Completion
Certificates.
Please note that if you have not been shooting on a regular
basis and have not maintained your safety, gun handling, and
marksmanship skills you will need to brush up on your shooting
before you can participate in the tactical shoots.
Junior Rifle Program
The Junior Rifle Program for shooters age 12 to 80 (or older)
will commence on Wednesday, October 5 at 7:00 pm. The shoot
will end at 9:00 pm because this is a school night for the juniors.
There are two parts to the program - an introductory course
where participants learn rifle safety and shooting techniques in
-
cluding handling, maintenance, aiming, and shooting. This is a
4-week course and will go from October 5 through October 26.
The cost for this portion of the program is $40 per shooter and
includes use of the rifle, all ammunition, and the loan of eye and
ear protection.
The second part of the program is the practice session. At the
end of the introductory course, shooters can continue to improve
their shooting skills in these practice sessions which are every
Wednesday, through the end of March. The cost for the practice
session is $45 and again includes the rifle, all ammunition, and
the loan of eye and ear protection. The juniors are encouraged
to bring their homework for times when they will be waiting to
get on the range.

Junior Shotgun Program
The Club’s Junior Shotgun program has concluded. It will be
offered again next year in June. The Club recently purchased 4
new shotguns for the program which will be available to the pro

gram next spring.
Membership
The Club has 425 senior members, 18 junior members, and 20
associate members as of the end of June for a total of 463 mem
-
bers.
The Club always welcomes new members. If you have any
friends or acquaintances who might be interested in joining the
Club and participating in the Club’s activities, bring them up and
show them around.

Work Parties
Work Parties are held on the 3rd Saturday of each month to
do maintenance and improvements around the Club. These work
parties (Club volunteers) are a critical part of the Club’s opera
-
tion. Without constant maintenance and an effort to improve the
Club, members would find it more and more difficult to use the
Club’s facilities.
The Directors ask everyone who can to donate some time to
these work parties. Lunch is provided. You don’t have to be here
all day, any time you can give to this effort is greatly appreciated
by the Directors and highly valued to the Club. No special skills
are required; there is always a lot of maintenance required just on
the grounds in the form of trimming, cutting grass, and general
clean-up.
Work parties have been concentrating on getting the new in
-
door range completed and doing indoor maintenance. The work
parties have more outside landscaping maintenance to do around
the property and repairs to the outdoor ranges; but they are con
-
tinuing to work on the new indoor range.
• July Work Party
- The July work party was held on July 16.
The volunteers at this work party were: Steve Boehm, Scott Kar
-
man, Tyler Karman, Joe Montuoro, Ray Noakes, and Jack Stark.
They continued to work on the new pistol range.
• August Work Party
- The August work Party was held on
August 20. The volunteers at this work party were: Steve Boehm,
Brian Forsyth, David Gilbert, Chuck Heisler, John Huemrich,
Jan Joos, Paul Joos, Scott Karman, Tyler Karman, Nick Lamago,
Joe Montuoro, Jeff Neel, Denis Nill, Ray Schuerger, Jack Stark,
Brian Vallor, and Glenn Woods.
They replaced the double steel doors near the indoor range,
replaced or repaired the Celotex on the indoor range, worked on
the new surveillance camera system, cleaned up the trap bun
-
kers, worked on the target retrieval system on the new range, and
cut grass, trimmed weeds around the outdoor range areas and
grounds around the club house.
Open Trap Shooting
The Club holds open trap shooting on Wednesdays from 6:00
p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and on Sundays from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
These shooting sessions are open to the public. The cost for a
25-bird line of trap is now $3.00. Shooters can bring their own
shotgun shells (shot no larger than 7 1/2) or they can buy shotgun
shells at $8.00 a box at the range. For questions on the Club’s

If you are interested in trying trap shooting, but have never
done it before or need to improve your skills, Joe Montuoro, Trap
Range Master and NRA instructor, is willing to teach you how to
do it. Just call him at 412-833-0897 to make arrangements.
The trap ranges have been entirely refurbished over the last few
years with new bunkers and new or rebuilt trap machines and
both trap ranges now have voice-activated bird launching sys
-
tems. The ranges are operating very well and offer the members
and the shooting community very functional ranges to enjoy the
sport of Trap Shooting.
Carrick-Mingo Shootout
The Carrick Trap Team won the annual Spring Carrick-Mingo
Shootout by over 100 birds this year - for the second year in the
row.
Carrick Internal Trap League
The Carrick internal trap league will start shooting on Wednes
-
day, September 7 at 6:00 pm to approximately 9:00 pm. They will
shoot for 12-weeks, finishing up at the beginning of December.
Shooters can shoot for the league on Sunday afternoon between
1:00 pm and 4:00 pm if necessary. The cost is $5/line. The league
allows shooting make-up sessions and shoot ahead sessions.

Metro Police Revolver League (MPRL)
The MPRL team shoots on Thursday evenings at 6:00 p.m. and
is currently shooting outdoors. Their 14-week season is finished,
and as of Week 13 they are holding 3rd place in .22 but 4th place
in center fire.
The team competes against teams from other clubs in the area,
with each team shooting at their home club; scores are submitted
to, and tallied by, the league scorekeeper.
The team invites anyone who is interested to come out and give
it a try. You can not hurt the team as only the best 4 sets of scores
are submitted for the competition, but you will be able to shoot as
if you were a member of the team.
They shoot both 22 and center fire pistols. You can shoot either
or both courses of fire.

CMP
The Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) Hi-Power Shoot
had three shooters at their August 14 shoot. They shoot on the
second Sunday of the month at 10:00 a.m. on the 100-yard out

door range. Shooters who would like to get involved with this
group are urged to attend one of their shoots and give it a try.
They shoot M-1 rifles which are provided by the Club.
The cost per session is only $25 and that includes 60 rounds of
ammunition for 3 targets.
This is a fun activity for those who enjoy shooting the M-1 mil
-
itary rifles. If you are interested in trying the CMP shoot come
out and give it a try.

Bowling Pin Shoot
The Bowling Pin Shoot on the outdoor range is done for the
season. They are moving indoors with the Monday Night Recre

ational Pistol League. The Bowling Pin Shoot will be held next
year starting in late May/early June.

Safety Before Fashion - Proper Attire for the Ranges
As a reminder and for everyone’s safety, shooters are reminded that no flip-flops, open toed shoes, low cut
shirts, blouses should be worn when shooting. This should prevent a hot cartridge from being ejected and
landing on the top of your foot or toe or even down the front or back of your shirt/blouse. There was recently
an incident in Florida where a hot cartridge found its way into a father’s shirt and onto his back. In a
reactionary motion he reached to pull the shell out with his gun hand and in reaching back inadvertently
shot and killed his son who was standing behind him.
Be Aware of this potential problem!
